EAT IT G 3 – COMPLETE RESULTS

First off, let’s welcome our 11 competitors:

– Tim Lister
– Chrissy
– Mio
– Levi
– Weston
– Loogaroo
– Pablo Elton (reigning EAT IT G 2 champion)
– ARGH! (former EAT IT G 1 champion)
– Ganon

– Anthony

Levi received the card written in green ink, scoring 10 bonus points right off the bat. Mio got the card written in red ink, scoring 5 bonus points. Bear in mind, all players must score 20 points before any extra points will be counted. Each player received a card on which they wrote down 8 songs, no more than one Level 12 and no more than three Level 11 and higher. Hard steps were only allowed if the song had no Expert steps and the difficulty was 8 or higher. Each card also had three modifiers the player could use once against a challenger.

Challenge Round 1

RULES: Each player had the opportunity to challenge one opponent to a song on their card. The challenged player could then respond by adding a modifier from their card. Players score 1 point for a 90% score and another point for each percentage point over 90%; winner of the song also won 5 bonus points. Players could decline playing more than two songs in a row, two consecutive Level 11 songs, or three challenges total.

– This is Loogaroo’s second song in a row. He may decline the next challenge if he chooses.

Challenge Round 2

RULES: Same rules apply as above. Players may not challenge the same player twice.

ARGH! challenges Chrissy to Solina
Chrissy adds the Tornado/Medium modifier
ARGH! wins the song, 93.47% (wins 9 points) to DNF (wins 0 points)
– SPOTLIGHT MATCH: Our first match in which the challenged player used one of the modifiers on their card. Behind Flip, Tornado is the most confusing modifier in the game. However, ARGH! appeared to have figured out how to make a Tornado mod more manageable by reducing the speed modifider to 1x or 1.5x. ARGH!’s strategic gameplan going into the tournament made him an early favorite, even though there were other players with more raw talent at the game.

Mio challenges Tim Lister to I Think I Like That Sound

Weston declines to add a modifier
Loogaroo wins the song, 94.00% (wins 10 points) to 93.63% (wins 4 points)

Anthony declines to add a modifier
Anthony wins the song, 83.00% (wins 5 points) to DNF (wins 0 points)

Chrissy challenges Levi to No Princess
Levi adds the Star Attack modifier (closest to 96% wins)
Chrissy wins the song, 78.51% (wins 5 points) to DNF (wins 0 points)
– This was Levi’s third challenge. He can decline any future challenge if he chooses.
NOTE: This was an oversight – Chrissy had challenged Levi in the first round and should not have been allowed to challenge him a second time. Fortunately, this did little to affect the overall outcome of the game.

Tim Lister challenges Anthony to Typical Tropical
Anthony declines to add a modifier
Tim Lister wins the song, 89.44% (wins 5 points) to 61.76% (wins 0 points)

Weston challenges ARGH! (who accepted a 4th challenge) to Cryosleep
ARGH! declines to add a modifier
Weston wins the song, 89.16% (wins 5 points) to 88.44% (wins 0 points)
– SPOTLIGHT MATCH: Shayne appeared to be going for extra points when he accepted a challenge by Weston on a a very tricky song. Unfortunately for him, he lost the match and failed to score 90% or higher on the song, resulting in a wasted opportunity to score points.

DJ Tyrant challenges ARGH! (who accepted a 5th challenge) to ROM-eo & Juli-8
ARGH! declines to add a modifier
DJ Tyrant wins the song, 96.56% (scores 12 points) to 95.72% (scores 6 points)
– SPOTLIGHT MATCH: Again, Shayne looked as if he was playing this match just to run up his score – especially after failing to score last time. He still lost the match, but managed to pick up a handful of points this time around.

Anthony challenges Mio to Disconnected
Mio declines to add a modifier
Mio wins the song, 95.58% (wins 11 points) to 64.74% (wins 0 points)

7) Tim Lister – 11 pts.
T8) Levi – 10 pts.
T8) Chrissy – 10 pts.
T8) Weston – 10 pts.
11) Anthony – 5 pts.

– SPOTLIGHT MATCH: Weston made the song a Great Attack, much to the delight of the audience. However, none of us probably expected Ganon to perform as well as he did – not only did he beat Weston soundly (over 100 Greats difference), he got the 90% Greats award with only 4 Fantastics!

Pablo Elton declines to add a modifier
Loogaroo wins the song, 95.83% (wins 11 points) to 95.32% (wins 6 points)
Pablo Elton gets his first Strike
– SPOTLIGHT MATCH: Having come off a tough loss to Shayne in the last match, Loogaroo was in the position of having to win his next song or be eliminated. Using a song he’s practiced regularly for the last couple of weeks, he came through against Pablo, surprising many (including himself) at how well he’d performed to that point.

Pablo Elton challenges Tim Lister to Infection
Tim Lister adds the Star Attack modifier

Elimination Round 3

RULES: Play will continue until three players remain; at that point, the two lowest scoring players remaining will compete until one is eliminated; that player will go up against the top-scoring player in the finals. It should also be noted that by agreement, if I reach the final four, I would withdraw from the competition to prevent myself from winning a top-3 prize.

Loogaroo adds the 1x Expand modifier

Mio gets his second Strike and is eliminated
NOTE: there was a discrepancy regarding the score as Mio claimed that he got a Pad Decent on one of the steps. However, as the adjusted score above suggests, Mio still would not have won the song if he had gotten an Excellent on the step.

Final Round

RULES: The finalists are presented three cards, each with a different song list. Lowest-scoring player vetoes a card, highest-scoring player picks from the two remaining. Players will not know the specific songs on each card before selecting them; only their difficulty levels. The last song on each card has at least one modifier. Each song is worth 10 points to the winner (regardless of score), first to win two songs wins the match (though all three will still be played for scoring purposes).

Card 1: Wanna Do (10), Utopia (11), Anubis (10) (Bumpy)
Card 2: Cryosleep (10), Robotix (11), While Tha Rekkid Spinz (9) (Right, Dizzy)
Card 3: Go 60 Go (12), Infection (11), Twilight (10) (Beat)

ARGH! vetoes card 3, Ganon selects card 2.

– SPOTLIGHT SONG: Now that the game had been wrapped up, the last song was mainly played for laughs. Most of the crowd took to clapping their hands on every jump, and even Ganon joined in towards the end of the song!

Thanks to everyone for participating in the tournament, and a special thanks to Electric Ave. for giving me another opportunity to run a tournament despite the fact that I’m no longer a regular customer.

I hope everyone had a fun time at EAT IT G 3, and stay tuned for the next installment in the EAT IT G series, which I’ll hopefully have planned for sometime in the spring of next year.

Thought I did pretty good for not having really played ITG2 for a few months except for the night before. Good times Tim, thanks for hosting it ^_^
