Identify Those Lyrics – iTunes version

It’s time for another installment of that popular LJ game, Identify Those Lyrics!

This batch of lyrics is being used to celebrate my discovery of the iTunes store, from which I’ve purchased a decent amount of eponymous tunes over the past few weeks. Most of my purchases (of those that have lyrics) will be featured in tonight’s batch. So this installment will be considerably less reliant on the typical TMBG and BNL fare. (There’ll still be some material from them, mind you.)

The rules are simple: 25 lyrics below. Identify the song and the artist, and you earn points. As time goes on, the songs will get easier, but will be worth fewer points, natch. Each song identified in this round is worth 5 points. Here we go:

1. I’ve been burned before/You’re not fooling me, there’s no mystery/You’ve forgotten what you’re hiding for

2. A filch who met you took every last dime with that scam/It was worth it just to learn some sleight of hand

3. Well here we are at the transmission party/I love your friends, they’re oh so arty, oh yeah

4. Y’all can see me now ’cause you don’t see with your eye/You perceive with your mind

5. It’s not vicious or malicious/Just lovely and delicious

6. Moments that we share/Special times alone/Just don’t ever change/’Cause I’m so into you

7. It gets hot, the memory’s faded/Who gets what they say

8. Norway and Sweden and Iceland and Finland and Germany now in one piece/Switzerland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Italy, Turkey and Greece

9. Hop in my Chrysler, it’s as big as a whale/And it’s about to set sail

10. When the day is long/And the night, the night is yours alone

11. Drug trip is not a drug trip so you feel a bit insulted

12. And the morning you wait for the sun/And secretly hope it won’t come

13. And if you wanna find me I’ll be out in the sandbox/Just wondering where the hell all the love is gone

14. “So I pulled into a Shell station; they said I’d blown a seal.”

15. Bottles and cans and just clap your hands and just clap your hands

16. It means so much to me, like a birthday or a pretty view

17. I won’t wanna be your idol/See this pedestal is high and I’m afraid of heights

18. Do you really wanna play this game just to keep things going/Or are you ready now to let it be

19. You thought that I was naïve and I thought that I was strong

20. The sensamilla salesman, the cops on the block/They know what I’ve been doin’, they see the way I walk

21. In my prison cell I think these words/I was careless, I can see that now

22. Sometimes you’re happy, sometimes you cry/Half of me is ocean, half of me is sky

23. You gotta Prada bag with a lotta stuff in it/Give it to your friend, let’s spin

24. I disconnected my heart and cut myself on the wire

25. This is where the allies bombed the school – they say by mistake

I’ll give you guys until, oh, Tuesday at noon PST to make your guesses. After that, I’ll post more lyrics for the songs not guessed, but at the point the value goes down to 3 points each.

I’ll take the two gimmies for now and put them up for now.

#9 is “Love Shack” by the B-52’s (heard this one live)
#19 is “Stay (I Missed You)” by Lisa Loeb and Nine Stories
…. or simply “Stay” by Lisa Loeb. =) The acoustic version of this song is MUCH better, IMHO.

#17 was playing on Giovanni this last week:
